House description
In a quiet street in the centre of Enkhuizen, the so called 'Boerenhoek' (farmers' corner), you will find this cosy holiday home with a small jetty. From the conservatory, you walk straight onto the terrace which looks out on a small canal. From there you can cosily float along to larger waterways. The home is within walking distance of a supermarket (150 m), but of course you could always go for a meal in the centre of Enkhuizen. Here you will find - besides good restaurants - pleasant shopping streets, terraces and the Zuiderzee museum. This indoor- and outdoor museum tells the history of daily life around the Zuiderzee. Enjoy a nice walk or cycling trip along the Ijssel lake or visit the other big cities of the region like Hoorn, Alkmaar and Haarlem. You will definitely have a good time!

2008-12-23 A well equipt house in a quiet but central location. Stairs are steep and it could do with a toaster but otherwise it is lovely, a real home from home.
2006-08-30 Hello
On receiving the key we had a problem getting in, and had to call the caretaker. On turning the key you have to pull the door towards you for it to open! However, this was a really charming and homely house with very good facilities and equipment. There is an excellent supermarket within 1 minute's walk (on Vijzel Straat) which is open till 9pm on the Friday you arrive so you can get provisions. It opens again at 8am for fresh bread etc. The staircase in the house is extremely steep so if you have very young children or are elderly it might cause difficulties. Also, there is no oven or grill, just hob and basic microwave, so no possibility for toast or pizza!
Other than that the kitchen equipment is excellent, the house was clean, and there were cleaning substances (e.g. washing up liquid, loo cleaner)and equipment.
It was lovely to have the canal at the bottom of the garden, which is laid out as a terrace with table & chairs. There is plenty of wildlife, we saw a heron at the side of the canal!
Enkhuizen itself has much to recommend it, it's a very attractive and photogenic place, the people were helpful and friendly, although there is not a lot to do for young children. There is a small sandy beach on the lake, and the public swimming pool is very good, there is quite a good children's playground near the Zuijder Zee museum but you have to pay to get in. The Zuijder Zee museum is excellent and well worth a visit.
