House description
This unpretentious yet charming semi-detached house measuring 60 m, boasts a hillside location in the medieval and picturesque old quarter of Celleno.
This picture-perfect scene is enhanced further by traditional exterior stone walls, covered in part by climbing plants. The no-nonsense yet homely furnishings heighten the sensation of living in another age.
The house is across 3 levels and, in-keeping with century old enemy defence tactics, it backs onto other buildings in the old town. The house also enjoys breathtaking views over the valley below.
Celleno old town is awe-inspiring; it could almost be the set for a period film. Only a few metres away you will find the Orsini Castle walls and the facade of the old church, and if you venture a little further you can also discover the sixth century convent.
The setting is peaceful despite the modern town centre of Celleno being only 2km away; where shops and the usual amenities are to be found. This is also a great place to go for a stroll.
In the vicinity you will find Bolsena Lake, (only 10 km away) where you can go fishing, canoeing (the owner can provide you with a canoe, on request at the time of booking), relax in the sun on the lake-side or dine in one of the traditional restaurants. Viterbo (15 km away), apart from being a beautiful town also lays claim to two spas. In the surrounding countryside why not visit the weird and wonderful hot sulphur lakes?
Towns close at hand include Orvieto, Civita di Bagno Regio, Montefiascone, Bagnaia as well as Capranica; all home to spectacular buildings and gardens. Mount Amiata offers fabulous walking opportunities in the shade of the chestnut trees.
Rome is one and a half hours away by car, but can also be reached by bus or by one of three train routes (the owner will be happy to provide you with all the necessary information).
Due to its architecture, this house is not suitable for small children.

This house is in a very quiet location with lovely views from the upper floors. It was very clean and well equipped and the owner very pleasant. Although old, it has been restored with care and is full of very nice, old furniture. If you are a small party and have the use of a car, it makes an excellent base for seeing the area north of Rome and in fact it is quite easy to get to Rome in an hour or so by car (though we didn't want to bother trying to find parking in Rome so took the train from Orvieto - an hourly service which takes about an hour and goes to the main train station in Rome). In the local area, Orvieto is a must see but slightly further afield, Todi and Tuscania were also lovely. Highly recommended!
