House description
Apartment walking distance from the centre of the town of Cuenca. The apartment is located on the fourth floor of a flat building in the area of San José. The apartment has modern and comfortable furnishings and has a small balcony. From the living room you have a beautiful view over the mountains.
The centre of Cuenca is on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The walls around the centre were built by the Moors, who built a stronghold here in the 8th century. The old town is picturesque and has the famous 12th century cathedral, the first Gothic cathedral in Spain. The casas colgadas (hanging houses) are famous, built on a fantastic cliff above a ravine. There is a museum of abstract art in the houses, the Museo de Arte Abstracto Español. The old medieval town centre is situated on a hill between the rivers of Júcar and Huécar, and therefore is elongated in shape. The central spot is the Plaza Mayor, in which you will find the cathedral and town hall. The newer part of town is lower, on flatter terrain. Most of the inhabitants live there, and there is a railway station. From Cuenca you can take the high speed trains to Madrid (45 min.), Valencia (58 min.) and Toledo (1hour 28 min.).
